Gas heater lifespan varies with install location and chemistry. Salt-safe models installed in coastal zones may last longer than standard models.
Heat pumps generally last longer than gas heaters on paper, but refrigerant leaks become more common as they age.
The biggest lifespan factor is water chemistry — high pH can create scale that damages heat exchangers regardless of brand.
